TalTech's First Golf Tournament A Success

I want to thank everyone who assisted in preparing for and running our first ever TalTech Alliance Golf Tournament, as well as those who participated. Thanks to you, we had a very successful tournament on Monday. We hope to have some pictures posted soon.

Registration went pretty smoothly, apart from some minor mistakes I made in getting some of the comps and last minutes registrations on the list (Sorry Chris!) We ended up with 14 teams, 56 players. A very respectable turnout.

Five Exabytes & Forty Bits

Five exabytes. How much data is that? In nearly two decades of working in the computer industry, I had never paid much attention to a unit of measurement larger than a terabyte. Well, according to Eric Schmidt, Google CEO, five exabytes of data is approximately the sum total of all the information produced by humankind from the dawn of time through the year 2003.

Five exabytes also happens to be the approximate amount of information that the human race now generates every two days. Twitter alone produces the equivalent of Tolstoy’s War and Peace every two minutes.

Ten Years of TalTech - Message from the Chair - December 2010

Ten years of TalTech. Yes, in Spring of 2011 it will be ten years ago that a very successful Chamber-sponsored business technology summit inspired a few local visionaries to form TalTech Alliance. If you were to speak with one of them today, they would likely admit that TalTech has grown in ways that might not exactly match their original vision. That's one challenge with being visionary, I suppose.

I'd also like to thank our Board Members for the leadership and guidance they provided during that same time.

UGly Night Was a Beautiful Night

Fellow Tech Enthusiasts:

Thanks to all of you for making this year's UGly Night such a success. It was great to see everyone learning and networking. I met several interesting new people myself, and, if I'm not mistaken, I think at least one person might even have come away from that meeting with a new job prospect.

TechExpo 2010 - Definitely a "10"

As we who were part of the TechExpo 2010 team breath a collective sigh of relief, I have to raise a virtual glass and toast everyone for a job well done. All of us, our intrepid interns and student assistants, our speakers and exhibitors, our board members and committee chairs, our tireless Expo chair, Jason Stamm -- all of us -- put together a brilliant conference.
