Printer-friendly view of this page.
Each year, Tallahassee’s Innovation Park awards grants to support businesses with innovative ideas for technology commercialization. On Tuesday (Aug. 18), two local grant recipients will speak about their cause-related and technology-based business efforts at the TechTyme meeting of the Tallahassee Technology (TalTech) Alliance.

The guest speakers include Gustav Ray, founder of Baycom Diagnostics, and Richard Benham, founder of the Elections by the People Foundation. Ray and Benham are expected to discuss strategies their companies use to contribute to the betterment of society and how others can do the same.

The talk will cover the roadmap to commercialization, including the research and development process, entrepreneurial support systems, defining the market, identifying sources of capital, and the preparation to launch a scalable product or service into the marketplace. The steps explained by the speakers should equip existing companies with the tools to broaden their customer base and launch new products to diversify sources of revenue.

Ray and Benham represent companies that are recognized for taking technology to new levels. Baycom Diagnostics was formed to supply diagnostic tests for pet diabetes for veterinary and home use. The Elections by the People Foundation is a non-profit corporation committed to advancing its Hybrid Voting System, which is “technically superior to currently available systems and will improve the election process as a whole,” said Benham.

The TechTyme meeting is at the Challenger Learning Center, located at 200 South Duval St. in Kleman Plaza, and is expected to last from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. There is no cost for TalTech members; non-members pay $20 or can join TalTech on-site.

The Tallahassee Technology Alliance is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit alliance of businesses, academic centers, entrepreneurs and individuals invested in promoting technology-based entrepreneurship, business expansion and innovation in the Capital region.  It currently has 250 members representing more than 75 area technology-based companies, institutions and organizations. The TalTech Alliance is the recognized technology roundtable of the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County.
