TalTech's First Golf Tournament A Success

I want to thank everyone who assisted in preparing for and running our first ever TalTech Alliance Golf Tournament, as well as those who participated. Thanks to you, we had a very successful tournament on Monday. We hope to have some pictures posted soon.

Registration went pretty smoothly, apart from some minor mistakes I made in getting some of the comps and last minutes registrations on the list (Sorry Chris!) We ended up with 14 teams, 56 players. A very respectable turnout.

For a few minutes, it looked like a freak rainstorm was going to soak our game, but it passed before the players went to their carts. Bobby Bowden arrived just as the rain was clearing and played with the FPL Fibernet team.

Out on the course, it looked like everyone had a good time. The rain stayed away and the sun came out for the last half. As we checked in on the players, there was plenty of enthusiasm on the course and we had lots of positive feedback.

Believe it or not, a pro golfer was playing on the FPL Fibernet team and he made a hole in one. It turned out to be Butch Bundy, the same pro golfer who works at Killearn Country Club and had donated a one-hour lesson to the raffle. Although we didn't have a specific hole-in-one prize, we gave him one of the restaurant gift cards from the raffle for his feat.

At the luncheon, our prizes were very well received. We did a good job getting attractive prizes for the players, and we ended up with a lot of raffle items.

We had the following groups represented in the tournament:
Dave Overholt (Avaya) group
Florida Commerce Credit Union
Ed Mansouri (UCompass.com) and friends
1270 the Team (our media sponsor)
Rick Oppenheim's group
Eric Smith's group ( included Paul Watts of Electronet, a former TT member)
City of Tallahassee
Bill Lake (Datamaxx) and friends
Marc Paul (Paul Consulting) and friends
Chet Hall (North Highland) and friends
FPL Fibernet group - our main sponsor (Curtis Clifford)
Robert Hines and friends
Comcast group
Chris Mantzanas (Salter Mitchell, who donated the graphics design)

All in all, we had a great time with some good friends, and the ultimate goal of having funds for our education programs was achieved. Keep an eye out on our web site for information regarding the Education and Internship Summit as we put the proceeds to good use!
